“Worlds Edge” is the second book in Ryan Kirk’s “Nightblade” series – which I believe is a planned trilogy. Kirk’s first book was an impressive debut and this follow up is every bit as good as the first. Both books will easily hold their own against anything else out there in the fantasy genre right now. In this second episode, Ryuu and Moriko are attacked by a strange new type of warrior and they must embark on separate journeys to try and get answers. While this is happening, the three kingdoms stand on the brink of a civil war and a new massive army from outside of the kingdoms march toward them all.Kirk continues to load up his story with new characters that are terribly interesting in their own right, all while further endearing Ryuu and Moriko to the reader. While this fantasy series might not be as epic in its scope as Sanderson’s “Stormlight Archive” or Weeks “Lightbringer” series, it is compelling in its own way. Perhaps it’s the beautifully simple magic system, or maybe it’s the impossible situations that the two main characters find themselves facing that makes them so relatable. Whatever it is, these first two books are captivating and very hard to put down. I’m excited to read the final book when it comes out and will certainly be purchasing whatever else Kirk releases in the future. This series is extremely good. Buy with confidence.
