GoodVery fine. It’s definitely worth seeing. Performances are from quite good to great. Smart script.Every woman in Law School should have the privilege of seeing this film at least once in their lives. Watching this again thirty-odd years after first viewing it several times on cable in the 1980's reinforced my admiration for the acting skills of the phenomenal Glenn Close, the superb Jeff Bridges, the near-forgotten Peter Coyote, and the movie's only Oscar nominee the utterly terrific Robert Loggia. Bridges (who decades later would win an Oscar for playing a much more sympathetic character) was perfectly cast as the womanizing newspaper publisher accused of killing his heiress wife with a jagged knife, but Close had her best role to date (two years before Fatal Attraction) as a reluctant attorney who falls in love with this heel. All of the other performances were uniformly excellent, as was the chilling score by Academy-Award winner John Barry, who was not nominated for this. Neither were Close or Bridges. Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas never equaled this stunning masterpiece, although his 1989 screenplay Music Box garnered a Best Actress Oscar nomination for Jessica Lange some five years later, and he would receive a record-breaking three million dollars for his script Basic Instinct, the 1992 blockbuster that made Sharon Stone a star. As with Close in this 1985 classic, Lange also portrayed a lady lawyer defending a dubious client. I also like Guilty as Sin starring Rebecca DeMornay (who defended a reprehensible Don Johnson) an under-rated 1990 flick directed by the late great Sidney Lumet, which was obviously inspired by Jagged Edge, the very best of the four movies mentioned.I'm the 41st person to give this film a Four Star Review and the 168th to review it at all. This review is from an old tape I made from cable many years ago. I just saw it a few days ago. There are several coincidences in this film that mirror real life. Like June 12 being the date of a murder of a wife by an estranged husband (Simpson Case 1994). This screenplay is fantastic and is multifaceted. it shows how corrupt prosecutors can be when they are determined to win a case. It's not just the defense attorneys that are sleazy but more often than not it's the prosecution that seeks to skirt the laws.Great performances all around abound in this film. Jeff Bridges was incredible as Jack Forrester and Glenn Close was solid in her role too. This film is similar to that of Guilty as Sin and I recommend it to anyone who seeks another interesting murder mystery. Yet I must agree with another reviewer or commenter that felt it was unlikely that an average looking woman like Close's character would be attracted to a handsome man like Bridge's character. and why would he even want to get involved with her in the first place? It made no sense. No, he would not have sex with her so she would defend him harder. If anything, with her objectivity thrown off she would have been making more mistakes in the courtroom. And why would the killer seek to kill Close when he was in effect scot-free (Double Jeopardy)? It makes no sense why he would do what he did. despite this plot inconsistency, I recommend this movie. Joseph Ezterhaus formulated an interesting script. Four Stars for this fine film.A. Nathaniel Wallace, Jr.For drama suspence movies this has been a favorite of mine for decades . I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes drama with suspence . The acting is believeable and there are few movies around that I feel are as good with this plot... at the time of this movies release I feel it was very originally done .I was disappointed with this legal drama. Jeff Bridges is accused of killing his wife and hires Glenn Close to defend him. You can tell what will happen between them right from the start which was just too predictable. Still I persevered and continued to watch. What kept my interest was Bridges’ motivation, did he actually like Close or was he just trying to use her? Still there was some cringe worthy moments like when Close sees Bridges not in an office with people taking notes but at his home or when she bears her soul about an old case. They were done soooo badly. It ended up getting worse towards the end.Great thriller to test your "judging" abilities...AwesomeGreat old 1980’s classic thriller given a shiny lease of life in this Blu-ray edition. On a stormy night, a socialite is brutally murdered in her beach house. Her husband is accused of her murder but protests his innocence. When his lawyer takes his case, she finds herself not only defending him in court, but falling for him romantically even as his guilt or innocence remains unanswered…..Great cast led by Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges, supported by some fondly remembered 80’s familiar faces like Robert Loggia and Peter Coyote. The script by Joe Eszterhas is much more about the courtroom drama than his later similarly themed San Francisco thrillers ‘Basic Instinct’ and ‘Jade’ were and that’s where it’s strengths lie. Still, it’s always good to see an 80’s character thriller get a new release as this is a very 80’s kind of film which doesn’t really get made anymore.Powerhouse usually puts a good package of extras together, and you get lots of archival and new material here. Interviews, galleries, an essay booklet, etcA good package. Why send to the UK knowing it will not play!!!!The following are the different regions and their corresponding numerical equivalent:Standard DVDs• Region 1: U.S., U.S. Territories, Canada, and Bermuda• Region 2: Japan, Europe (excluding Russia, Belarus and Ukraine), Greenland, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Egypt and the Middle East• Region 3: Southeast Asia, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau• Region 4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, South America, Mexico and the Caribbean• Region 5: Afghanistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa (except Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho), Central and South Asia, Mongolia and North Korea• Region 6: ChinaFrom 1985 this a a did he didn't he murder case with Jeff Bridges and Glen Close. Not too graphic but the story is quite cat and mouse between Bridges, suspected murderer, and his reluctant defence lawyer Close. Not a short film, at 1 hour and 48 minutes, but the tale is well handled with lots of chemistry between the leads. Nice to see Peter Coyote and Robert Loggia involved too.I LOVED THIS MOVIE WHEN I FIRST SAW IT AND THAT IS WHY I WANTED IT FOR MY COLLECTION! I ALSO LOVED THE TWISTS IN THE PLOT AND MR. BRIDGES IS A VERY ATTRACTIVE AND INNOCENT-LOOKING POTENTIAL KILLER AMONG THE OTHERS THAT ARE PRESENTED. GOOD CAST ON THE WHOLE TOO!Another superb classic movie available on blu ray, so pleased with the transfer to HD, now even better in that format
